ANKARA (Scrap Register): Turkish HMS 1/2 80:20 scrap import average prices (CFR Iskenderun Port, Turkey) down to $188 a ton week-on-week during the week ended December 29, as per the latest figures from the Steel Index. 

According to TSI, daily benchmark index for deep-sea Turkish imports of HMS #1&2 80:20 slipped by $1 a ton week-on-week to $188 a ton CFR Iskenderun port. 

The market was quiet for the most part, although a couple of ex-US East Coast cargoes heard concluded last week seemed to confirm the market had moved nearer to $185 a ton – these were not heard until after the publication cut-off on Friday and so were not factored into the weekly assessment. 

These lower US trades seemed to conflict with the view that the US domestic market would be strong in January, but the picture should become clearer once participants return from Christmas and New Year holidays.
