China’s appetite for imported bauxite will weaken as Chinese alumina giants announced massive output cuts.

SHANGHAI, Dec. 30 (SMM) – China’s appetite for imported bauxite will weaken as Chinese alumina giants announced massive output cuts.

Shandong Weiqiao Pioneering Group and Shandong Xinfa Group announced in December to slash alumina production by 3 million tonnes.

China imported 5.42 million tonnes of bauxite in November, up from 4.48 million tonnes in October and up 110.84% from a year ago, customs data showed. The month-on-month increase was mainly contributed by imports from Malaysia, India, Brazil and Guinea.
