Profits accelerate at Chinese secondary lead producers this week on the back of tightened supply, SMM understood.

SHANGHAI, Dec. 25 (SMM) – Profits accelerate at Chinese secondary lead producers this week on the back of tightened supply, SMM understood.

Secondary lead prices were mainly at 12,550-12,700 yuan per tonne (tax included) with average price at 12,640 yuan per tonne. And average price of scrap automobile batteries (white shell) and motive batteries was at 6,690 yuan per tonne and 7215 yuan per tonne respectively, all flat with last week.

Parts of disqualified secondary lead smelters do not resume operation as schedule after the SCO Summit in Henan’s Zhengzhou. Also, producers in north China were required to cut operation due to heavy smog. Secondary lead supply also tightened in Guangdong owing to environmental protection crackdowns.

Secondary lead prices (tax excluded) were up 100 yuan per tonne in many regions while scrap battery prices posted limited rise, yielding more profits for smelters.
