China Builds 15,000-tpy Hydro Copper Smelter in Kazakhstan

Bejing General Research Institute of Mining&Metallurgy (BGRIMM) contracted to build a 15,000-tpy hydro copper smelter for an English mining company in Kazakhstan, according to BGRIMM’s website.

SHANGHAI, Dec. 21 (SMM) - Bejing General Research Institute of Mining&Metallurgy (BGRIMM) contracted to build a 15,000-tpy hydro copper smelter for an English mining company in Kazakhstan, according to BGRIMM’s website.

The project divided into two phases. The first phase, a 10,000-tpy hydro-cathode copper (99.995%) smelter, was put into production in May 2012. The second phase was a 5,000-tpy build-out project, and came online in May 2015. The copper grade meets requirements for Grade A copper on the LME.
