SHANGHAI, Dec. 18 (SMM) – Chinese secondary lead producers registered a pick-up in profit margins due to supply tightness in secondary lead, SMM understood.
Secondary lead prices were mainly at 12,550-12,700 yuan per tonne (tax included) in this past week with average price at 12,640 yuan per tonne, up 40 yuan per tonne week on week.
On the other hand, average price stood at 6,690 yuan per tonne and 7,215 yuan per tonne for scrap automobile batteries (white shell) and motive batteries, respectively, growing 20 yuan per tonne and 10 yuan per tonne on a weekly basis. This increased costs by 15-35 yuan per tonne for lead smelters.
Secondary lead producers in north China were required to cut or halt production to reduce emission almost for one month due to local heavy smog, tightening market supply. And scrap battery sellers held offers firm.
