SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): Appliance Recycling Centers of America, Inc. (ARCA) will continue providing recycling services for Xcel Energy’s Refrigerator and Freezer Recycling Program for another three years. The contract has now been extended through December 2018, said an official press release by ARCA.

Through this recycling program, registered residential Xcel customers in Colorado, Minnesota and New Mexico are eligible for a rebate amount of $50 plus two free CFL light bulbs, for each qualifying refrigerator and freezer appliance. Every single household is allowed to recycle two energy-inefficient appliances per year, with the condition that the appliances must be in working order at the time of pickup. Also, most miniature and commercially-sized refrigerators do not qualify.

Edward R. (Jack) Cameron, ARCA's President and CEO expressed happiness in selecting the company to play vital role in the Xcel Energy-sponsored appliance recycling initiative. He added that Xcel customers may save up to $100 per year on their energy bills by replacing their older refrigerators and freezers with newer energy-efficient models. At the same time, it protects the environment through safe destruction of harmful substances in old appliances.

According to statistics, ARCA has recycled nearly 60,000 old refrigerators and freezers as part of the program in Colorado, Minnesota and New Mexico.

A pioneer in developing cutting-edge technologies to serve its clients, ARCA maximizes materials recycling while protecting natural resources from the environmentally damaging substances found in old appliances. ARCA's regional centers process appliances at end of life to remove environmentally damaging substances and produce material byproducts for recycling. ARCA Advanced Processing, LLC employs advanced technology to refine traditional appliance recycling techniques to achieve optimal revenue-generating and environmental benefits. Eighteen company-owned stores under the name ApplianceSmart, Inc. sell new appliances directly to consumers.

Chinese Team Sets New Record in CZTSSe Thin-Film PV Tech, Hits 16.6% Efficiency
Recently, the team led by Meng Qingbo at the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, once again set a new record in new-type thin-film PV copper-zinc-tin-sulfur-selenium (CZTSSe) technology, raising the battery’s certified efficiency to 16.6%, marking the technology’s official crossing of the critical threshold for industrialisation from 15 to 16. Composed of common, low-cost elements such as copper, zinc, and tin, CZTSSe materials not only avoid reliance on rare metals but also offer strong resistance to space radiation. At present, the team has also completed the development of high performance flexible batteries and modules, and this technology is expected to achieve large-scale application in fields such as low-Earth-orbit satellite internet, space-based energy bases, and aerospace equipment in the future. This progress not only established China’s internationally leading position in this field, but also opened up strategic, high-value-added application prospects for tin metal in new energy and deep-space exploration.
