SHANGHAI, Dec. 15 (SMM) – Secondary lead prices registered gains recently in China while scrap battery prices see little room for both rallies and falls. What is behind the dilemma situation for scrap batteries?

Secondary lead prices have hiked 275 yuan per tonne in Hebei since December 1 while those of scrap batteries only grew by 75 yuan per tonne. This situation suited for most regions in China.

Despite tightness in scrap battery supply, pile of disqualified secondary lead smelters shut down due to snows and rains, cutting demand. Besides, most large producers sourced cheap goods and were unwilling to buy at highs. This pushed traded prices for scrap batteries to a standstill.

Scrap battery sellers hold offers firm and thus purchase prices by traders also stayed high. Consequently, high costs lent support to secondary lead prices.
