The growth in scrap battery prices slowed profits at Chinese secondary lead producers in this past week.

SHANGHAI, Dec. 11 (SMM) – The growth in scrap battery prices slowed profits at Chinese secondary lead producers in this past week.

Average price of scrap automobile batteries (white shell) came in at 6,670 yuan per tonne this week, and 7,205 yuan per tonne for scrap motive batteries, down 95 yuan per tonne and 55 yuan per tonne, respectively, on the weekly basis. This lifted smelting costs by 85-160 yuan per tonne for smelters.

Growing operating rates at disqualified secondary lead smelters were cited as the main reason behind the rise in scrap battery prices.

However, average price of secondary lead only grew 55 yuan per tonne week-on-week to 12,600 yuan per tonne.
