CHICAGO (Scrap Monster): Rexam’s North American Corporate Office in Chicago, Illinois has been announced as the winner of 2015 Great American Can RoundUp (GACR) Industry Challenge. The location recycled more than 61,000 pounds of aluminum beverage cans. The winners of the contest, sponsored by the Washington-based Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI), were selected on the basis of number of pounds collected per employee.

Rexam’s raised nearly $24,500 for various local charities through its recycling efforts. As the winner of the contest, the company was awarded additional $2,000 as donations to charity. The 2015 event generated more than $85,000 for local charities across the US. 193, 213 pounds of aluminum used beverage containers were collected and recycled during the contest.

The winner of second place was Ball Corporation's Findlay plant in Ohio, which recycled 38,364 pounds of aluminum beverage cans. The plant raised $17,400 for donations to charity. The company was awarded additional $1,000 to be donated to charity of their choice. Ball Corporation’s Rome plant, Georgia won the third prize, by recycling additional $2,000 and raising more than $4,000 for charity.

GACR Industry Challenge is held annually to promote awareness around the environmental benefits of recycling aluminum cans. The 2015 Challenge involved more than 40 facilities, including plants and corporate offices. Since its inception, the GACR Industry Challenge has recycled more than 7 million pounds of aluminum cans, thereby raising more than $7 million for charities across the country.

CMI is the national trade association of the metal can manufacturing industry and its suppliers in the United States. The can industry accounts for the annual domestic production of approximately 124 billion food, beverage and other metal cans; which employs more than 28,000 people with plants in 33 states, Puerto Rico and American Samoa
