US Raw Steel production plummets by nearly 20% to 1,487,000 net tons

United States domestic raw steel production plummeted by nearly 20% year-on-year to 1,487,000 net tons in the week ended November 28.

NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production plummeted by nearly 20% year-on-year to 1,487,000 net tons in the week ended November 28, while the capability utilization rate was 62.2 percent, as per the latest figures released the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

According to AISI, production was 1,856,000 net tons in the week ended November 28, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 77.2 percent.

The current week production represents a 19.9 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ended November 28, 2015 is down 4.8 percent from the previous week ended November 21, 2015 when production was 1,562,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 65.3 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through November 28, 2015 was 80,775,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 71.7 percent. That is down 8.7 percent from the 88,510,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.8 percent.
