SHANGHAI, Dec. 1 (SMM) –Chinese aluminum smelters suffered fewer losses thanks to a slump in alumina prices, SMM found.

The average loss at Chinese aluminum smelters surveyed by SMM shrank to less than 1,000 yuan ($156) per tonne in the week ending November 30. This is mainly contributed by an almost 100 yuan per tonne drop in alumina prices.

Spot aluminum prices in China fell early last week, but then rebounded. SMM spot aluminum average price slipped 4 yuan per tonne on a weekly basis to 9,948 yuan per tonne.
