China’s Xinjiang-based Qianxin Mining Co. shut down its zinc & lead mine and dressing plant with ore processing capacity of 2,500 tonne per day in early November.

SHANGHAI, Dec. 1 (SMM) - China’s Xinjiang-based Qianxin Mining Co. shut down its zinc & lead mine and dressing plant with ore processing capacity of 2,500 tonne per day in early November, due to water shortages from low temperatures, according to 100ppi.com.

The mine and its dressing plant produces 3,500 tonnes of zinc concentrate (zinc content) each month under full operation. The company maintained monthly zinc concentrate output at 2,000 tonnes (zinc content) before closure, and output this year is expected to reach 10,000 tonnes (zinc content).

It now has 3,000 tonnes (zinc content) of zinc concentrate inventories on hand, but does not intend to sell them given low zinc prices. After suspension, it will upgrade equipment and technology so as to increase zinc concentrate grade from 45% to 50%, and plans to restart in June-July next year.
