Aluminum consumption in China is expected to weaken further in 2016, Shanghai Metals Market foresees.

SHANGHAI, Nov. 25 (SMM) – Aluminum consumption in China is expected to weaken further in 2016, Shanghai Metals Market foresees.

“Utilization rates at major domestic aluminum processing enterprises are down on a yearly basis in 2015, such as aluminum plate/sheet, strip, aluminum extrusion, cast aluminum alloy, reducing aluminum consumption,” SMM’s aluminum analyst said at the 2015 Foundry Industry Conference.

The decline in the rate is due largely to weak demand from major end-user sectors, including construction, real estate and automobile sectors, the analyst continued at the conference held on Nov. 19-20 in Suzhou.

“Such conditions are expected to continue into 2016, and aluminum consumption in China is then expected to fall by 1 percent from 2015,” the analyst predicted.
