SHANGHAI, Nov. 20 (SMM) - TCs of domestic zinc concentrate (50%) held stable at 5,300-5,500 yuan per tonne (zinc content) this past week, SMM finds.
Zinc mines in Guangxi’s Hechi were little affected by recent sluggish zinc prices thanks to by-products such as tin and antimony, SMM understands. Some mines in Guangxi’s Gongcheng Prefecture closed due to environmental protection inspections. “Some build-out projects were held off against low zinc prices, and those mines remaining in production also lacked enthusiasm to produce,” said and SMM zinc analyst.
“China’s zinc concentrate TCs should remain stable in the near term, and zinc concentrate output will decline sharply due to low zinc prices and cold weather.” the zinc analyst says.
TCs of imported zinc concentrate (50%) fell to $180-195 per dry metric tonne (DMT) this week, with the low-end of $170. But zinc smelters barely closed any deals below $180, with trading quiet. Profit from imported ore expanded 150 yuan to 730 yuan per tonne (zinc content) compared with domestic ore.
