NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production declined sharply by 13.7% year-on-year to 1,601,000 net tons in the week ended November 14, 2015, while the capability utilization rate was 67.0 percent, as per the latest figures released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
According to AISI, production was 1,856,000 net tons in the week ended November 14, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 77.2 percent.
Production for the week ending November 14, 2015 is down 1.1 percent from the previous week ended November 7, 2015 when production was 1,618,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 67.7 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through November 14, 2015 was 77,726,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.0 percent. That is down 8.3 percent from the 84,798,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.8 percent.
