SINGAPORE (Scrap Register): ASEAN hot rolled cold (HRC) steel import prices (CFR ASEAN port) remained flat week-on-week at $275 a ton in the week ended November 06, as per the latest figures released by The Steel Index.

There was some price stability seen throughout the week for TSI’s ASEAN HR coil index as efforts from Chinese mills to hold the line on pricing were successful to a degree.

The cost of this price stability was reduced spot volume activity. Both Taiwan and Japan were seemingly intent on closing the price gap between themselves and China by lowering offers of SAE 1006 grade HRC with shorter lead times, with Taiwanese material the most prompt on offer.

News that the Vietnamese government is considering strengthening anti-dumping regulations is a concern for Chinese-origin vendors. Re-rollers are holding back on orders, awaiting a clear price trend before acting.
