ORLANDO (Scrap Monster): The Palm Beach Solid Waste Authority has announced a variety of programmes to celebrate the ‘America Recycles Day’. The special events on the occasion include allowing residents to watch the garbage getting recycled into energy, allowing for safe disposal of personal documents and providing an opportunity to drop off household hazardous waste for safe recycling. The celebrations are scheduled to be held from 9 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, Nov 14th at the SWA Education Center, 6751 N. Jog Road in West Palm Beach.

The residents will have an opportunity to sort recyclables on the interactive touch table line in the LEED Platinum designed Education Center. In addition, they will be invited to sort recyclables, see the 9-ton claw feed trash into the machine in Renewable Energy Facility 2 and get an idea about how much garbage, County residents throw away.

As part of the event, participants are also allowed to shred up to 6 boxes of personal documents for free. The first 200 cars will receive recycling goodie bags. In addition, the Solid Waste Authority will be handing out blue and yellow recycling bins to those county residents who need them. Participants can also drop off a non-perishable food item to be donated to a local food pantry.

SWA’s Home Chemical and Recycling Center, 6161 N. Jog Road will collect household hazardous wastes from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The allowed items include old automotive fluids, cleaning products, electronics, fluorescent light bulbs, paints, pesticides, pool chemicals, propane cylinders, rechargeable batteries, solvents and used cooking oil.

America Recycles Day, a program of Keep America Beautiful, is a nationally-recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States.
