SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): West Chester, Ohio-based AK Steel has received supplier award from Honda for its environmental achievement at its Rockport, Indiana facility. The steel firm was honored by Honda North America Inc. The award is in honor of AK Steel’s efforts to boost recycling, recovery and reuse of resources which resulted in saving water and energy.
The award in the Conservation of Natural Resources category was presented at Honda’s 23rd Annual Supplier Symposium in Columbus, Ohio. It is part of Honda’s Environmental Achievement Recognition that recognizes suppliers achieving environmental excellence in at least one of three different categories, including pollution prevention, energy reduction and conservation of natural resources.
"We are honored to receive this supplier recognition from Honda," said James L. Wainscott, Chairman, President and CEO of AK Steel.
Rockport Works is located on the Ohio River in southwest Indiana. The new state-of-the-art carbon and stainless steel finishing operations are housed in more than 1,750,000 square feet of buildings. Utilizing the latest manufacturing technologies, the plant incorporates Automated Guidance Vehicles (AGV) and automated cranes to move the steel through the various finishing operations. Steels from Rockport Works include a full range of cold rolled carbon, coated and stainless steels in either the annealed and pickled or temper rolled surface condition.
