US Raw Steel production plummets to 1,641,000 net tons

United States domestic raw steel production plummeted by nearly 11% to 1,641,000 net tons during the week ended October 31.

NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production plummeted by nearly 11% to 1,641,000 net tons during the week ended October 31, while the capability utilization rate was 68.6 percent, as per the latest figures from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

According to AISI, production was 1,840,000 net tons in the week ended October 31, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 76.5 percent. 

Raw steel production for the week ended October 31, 2015 is down 1.6 percent from the previous week ending October 24, 2015 when production was 1,667,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 69.7 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through October 31, 2015 was 74,507,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.2 percent. That is down 8.1 percent from the 81,086,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.8 percent.
