Secondary lead prices in China will be dragged down by falling scrap battery prices, SMM reckons.

SHANGHAI, Nov. 3 (SMM) – Secondary lead prices in China will be dragged down by falling scrap battery prices, SMM reckons.

Scrap battery prices almost all slide 50-100 yuan per tonne in China currently. Traded prices for scrap automobile batteries (white shell) in Shandong drop to 6,950 yuan per tonne from 7,050 yuan per tonne. Besides, scrap motive battery prices fall to 7,400 yuan per tonne from 7,500 yuan per tonne.

Most lead smelters cut or halt purchase for scrap batteries due to thin profits. This, combined with ample supply, lead to supply surplus in market. As a result, scrap battery traders report troubles in selling at highs.
