NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production decreased by 9.4% year-on-year to 1,667,000 net tons in the week ended October 24, 2015, while the capability utilization rate was 69.7 percent, as per the latest figures from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
According to AISI, production was 1,840,000 net tons in the week ended October 24, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 76.5 percent.
The current week production represents a 9.4 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ended October 24, 2015 is down 0.5 percent from the previous week ending October 17, 2015 when production was 1,675,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 70.1 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through October 24, 2015 was 72,866,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.3 percent. That is down 8.1 percent from the 79,246,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.8 percent.
