Middle East crude steel output declined further in September

The sharp rise in crude steel output by the UAE failed to compensate for the drop in production from other countries in the region.

ABU DHABI (Scrap Monster): According to most recent data published by the World Steel Association (World Steel), the crude steel production by the Middle East region dropped by 5.3% during the month of September ’15 year-on-year. The region’s crude steel output totaled 2.211 Million tonnes during September this year, as compared with 2.335 Million tonnes during the same month a year before.

The total crude steel production by Iran during September was 1.337 Million tonnes, considerably down by 6.4% in comparison with the September 2014 production of 1.429 Million tonnes. Qatar produced 227,000 tonnes of crude steel, sharply lower by 15.6% when compared to 269,000 tonnes production achieved during September 2014. Meantime, Saudi Arabia’s crude steel output edged lower over the previous year to 381,000 tonnes during September this year. The total crude steel production by the UAE during September was 265,000 tonnes, significantly higher by 76.2% in comparison with the September 2014 production of 151,000 tonnes.

The cumulative crude steel output by the Middle East region during the initial nine months of current year totaled 20.908 Million tonnes, marginally higher by 1.0% when compared with the output of 20.700 Million tonnes during the corresponding nine-month period in 2014.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first nine months in 2015 in comparison with those during same period in 2014.
