Outbound shipments of nickel ore from the Philippines are expected to fall in 2015 on a yearly basis, Shanghai Metals Market foresees.

SHANGHAI, Oct. 27 (SMM) – Outbound shipments of nickel ore from the Philippines are expected to fall in 2015 on a yearly basis, Shanghai Metals Market foresees.

“Sluggish NPI prices and production cuts at Chinese NPI producers have reduced demand for Philippine nickel ore since August, resulting in a sharp drop in its total exports,” SMM explains.

During the first 8 months of 2015, nickel ore exports from the Philippines are revised to 31.75 million wet tonnes after SMM’s survey.

“The monsoon season in the country’s major ore producing regions will have also disturbed the shipments of ore, and this will further hamper its exports from November,” SMM further points out.

For the whole year of 2015, Philippine nickel ore exports are expected to be 46.27 million wet tonnes, down 14.20% on a yearly basis, SMM predicts.
