ALBANY (Scrap Monster): Contractors will soon begin work on improvements to the public drop-off area of the Recycling and Solid Waste Center at 160 Commercial Ave. in Ithaca, according to a news release.

The construction will mean a temporary relocation of the Food Scraps Recycling drop spot at the facility. The work area will be cordoned off with traffic cones. Customers are reminded to proceed with caution when using the public drop off area, the release stated.

McPherson Builders of Ithaca was awarded the contract to construct a permanent residential food scraps recycling bay at the drop off, as well as an area for fat, cooking oil and grease and additional parking to improve customer safety.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, the release continued.
