SHANGHAI, Oct. 16 (SMM) – Profits for Chinese secondary lead smelters stay low due to growth in cost higher than selling price this week, SMM reports.
Secondary lead mainly traded at 12,700-12,850 yuan per tonne (tax included) this week with average price at 12,775 yuan per tonne, up 25 yuan per tonne from a week ago.
However, scrap automobile battery (white shell) and scrap motive battery prices averaged 7,000 yuan per tonne and 7,500 yuan per tonne, respectively, rising 25 yuan per tonne week on week. This increases smelting cost by 40 yuan per tonne for smelters.
Few disqualified smelters start operation recently, leaving scarp battery supply healthy. But scrap battery prices pose no slip and even grow in some regions, decreasing overall profits at secondary lead smelters.
