SHANGHAI, Oct. 16 (SMM) - About 3/4 Chinese zinc smelters reported sufficient zinc concentrate supply in September, SMM finds in its latest survey. Only some zinc smelters in South China had low availability of zinc concentrate.
Zinc smelters in Inner Mongolia, Liaoning and Northwest China reported ready access to ores. There were producers in Shaanxi reporting supply tightness as mines held onto their goods. Some zinc smelters in Hunan and Sichuan also suffered from insufficient raw material supplies.
TCs of domestic zinc concentrate (50%) were 5,200-5,500 yuan per tonne (zinc content) in September. TCs of imported ore were $190-210 per dry metric tonne (DMT). Profit from imported ore averaged 860 yuan per tonne (zinc content) due to high SMM/LME zinc price ratio, according to SMM data.
