Mainstream purchase prices for scrap batteries in China post a rise following China’s National Day holiday, SMM learns.

SHANGHAI, Oct. 13 (SMM) – Mainstream purchase prices for scrap batteries in China post a rise following China’s National Day holiday, SMM learns.

On October 12, secondary lead smelters, including Henan Jinpeng Lead Industry and Jiangsu New Chunxing Resource Recycling, raised average purchase price by 50 yuan per tonne for scrap batteries. Other producers also report troubles in sourcing scrap batteries, they leave procurement prices unchanged though.

Secondary lead prices trace SMM #1 lead prices up and secondary lead makers thus increase purchase prices for scrap batteries, SMM explains.

Cargo holders hold back scrap batteries after a cut in purchase prices by secondary lead makers in July. This leads to difficulties in buying scrap batteries, leaving upside room for scrap batteries prices.

Operating rate at secondary lead smelters decreased to 33.58% in August, down by 6.18% from June when the latest VAT rebate cut has not been effective.
