Thailand scrap imports surged in July

BEIJING (Scrap Monster): The latest import statistics indicate that the scrap imports by Thailand during July this year surged higher significantly over the previous month. Also, the scrap imports witnessed sharp rise when compared with the same month a year ago. The country’s scrap imports have rebounded after declining considerably during the month of June this year.

The scrap imports by Thailand during the month of July this year totaled 148,000 tons. The imports rose 27.8% when compared with the scrap imports during the same month a year ago. Meantime, the scrap imports have soared higher by nearly 123% over the previous month. Thailand had imported 66,000 tons of scrap during the month of June this year.

The largest scrap exporter to Thailand during July ’15 was the United States. The scrap imports by Thailand from the US totaled 71,000 tons. The scrap imports from the country accounted for nearly 48% of the total scrap imports by Thailand during the month. The US scrap exports to Thailand increased significantly by 90% year-on-year. The second largest scrap exporter to Thailand during the month was Australia. The imports from the country totaled 28,000 tons, accounting for approximately 19% of the total scrap imports by Thailand during the month. The scrap imports from Australia dropped heavily by 54.4% year-on-year. In third place was Hong Kong with 14,000 tons. The scrap imports from Hong Kong skyrocketed by 103.4% over the previous year.

The country’s scrap imports during initial seven months of the year totaled 648,000 tons. The scrap imports by Thailand are projected to total around 1.1 million tons during the entire year 2015.
