SHANGHAI, Sept. 15 (SMM) – Approximately 30% of Chinese copper tube/pipe producers expect orders to fall in September, Shanghai Metals Market survey finds.
“The arrival of slow season will give no support to orders, and demand in this year’s high demand period was also weak due to cooler weather,” those pessimists told SMM in the survey.
The survey, covering 20 major domestic copper tube/pipe producers, also finds that 65% of participants believe that orders will remain stable in September, and the remaining 5%, however, are optimistic, expecting a growth of defense orders.
In August, utilization rate at the surveyed producers, representing 1.5 million tonnes/yr in total capacity, were 69.22%, down 9.13 percentage points on the month. The sharp declines in orders at major producers were blamed for falling production, according to SMM survey.
