SHANGHAI, Sept. 11 (SMM) - Chinese zinc smelters mostly had sufficient zinc concentrate in August, SMM finds.
“Smelters in Inner Mongolia, Liaoning and Northwest China reported ready access to zinc concentrate,” said an SMM zinc analyst.
Some smelters in South China still suffered from ore supply shortages, though. Some smelters in Hunan and Sichuan used secondary zinc oxide instead due to local ore supply tightness. But a large influx of imported zinc concentrate recently may help alleviate local supply shortfalls, SMM adds.
Smelters have been actively buying imported ore due to higher profit. Profit from imported ore averaged 900 yuan per tonne (zinc content) above domestic ore in August with rising price ratio. TCs of imported zinc concentrate (50%) were $200-215 per tonne (zinc content), according to SMM data.
TCs of domestic zinc concentrate (50%) were 5,200-5,500 yuan per tonne (zinc content) in August.
