SHFE 1511 zinc contract prices opened at RMB 14,820/mt Wednesday, and broke through RMB 15,000/mt at one point, then fluctuated around RMB 14,930/mt in the afternoon, and closed at RMB 14,905/mt, up RMB 295/mt or 2.02%. Trading volumes surged 59,742 to 124,000 lots, and total positions fell 1,225 to 124,000.
#0 zinc prices were between RMB 14,870-14,960/mt, RMB 50/mt below or RMB 20/mt above SHFE 1510 zinc contract prices. #1 zinc traded at RMB 14,770-14,790/mt. Imported #0 zinc prices were RMB 210-160/mt below SHFE 1510 zinc contract prices. Spot premiums fell sharply due to soaring SHFE zinc prices. Trading muted as the market took a wait-and-see posture, with traded prices between RMB 14,900-14,940/mt. A few downstream buyers mainly bought imported zinc.
