SHANGHAI, Sept. 7 (SMM) – Two aluminum smelters under Chalco, China’s top aluminum producer, have slashed output as high power costs and depressed prices have left them in severe losses, www.163.com reported.
Chalco (Liancheng) shut down 80 * 200kA electrolytic cells and 12 * 600KA electrolytic cells in H1 2015, and has closed almost all of its 200KA electrolytic cells at present www.163.com reported, quoting an executive from the company.
Chalco (Lanzhou) is also struggling in losses and once shut down 25 * 200KA electrolytic cells last year.
Most of aluminum smelters under Chalco have no captive power plants, putting them in a bad position over rivals with captive power plants, www.163.com added.
