No Growth Expected in Operating Rate at Chinese Secondary Lead Smelters in September

Operating rate at Chinese secondary lead smelters will not be set for rise in September following August’s drop, SMM predicts.

SHANGHAI, Sept. 6 (SMM) – Operating rate at Chinese secondary lead smelters will not be set for rise in September following August’s drop, SMM predicts.

Some large smelters use lead materials, like lead paste, to replace scrap batteries recently. But SMM believes that operating rate will not increase in September. Scrap battery supply should not grow as lead-acid batteries have entered an off-season.

Moreover, the VAT rebate cut leads to losses at smelters, which will depress lead smelters’ producing interest. Anhui Huaxin Lead Industry Group has not put new capacity online.
