US Raw Steel production plummets to 1,742,000 net tons

United States raw steel production plummeted by nearly 10% year-on-year to 1,742,000 net tons, in the week ended August 22.

NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States raw steel production plummeted by nearly 10% year-on-year to 1,742,000 net tons, in the week ended August 22, while the capability utilization rate was 72.9 percent, as per the latest figures from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

According to AISI, production was 1,930,000 net tons in the week ended August 22, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 80.2 percent.

Production for the week ended August 22, 2015 is down 1.5 percent from the previous week ended August 15, 2015 when production was 1,768,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 73.9 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through August 22, 2015 was 57,513,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.6 percent. That is down 7.8 percent from the 62,408,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 78.0 percent.
