China’s zinc output will grow 9.8% to 6.40 million tonnes in 2015, while consumption is expected to be 6.55 million tonnes, growing more slowly at a 4.8% pace.

SHANGHAI, Aug. 26 (SMM) - China’s zinc output will grow 9.8% to 6.40 million tonnes in 2015, while consumption is expected to be 6.55 million tonnes, growing more slowly at a 4.8% pace, says Lou Yonggang, Deputy Secretary General of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association Lead&Zinc Branch, at the 2nd Zinc Smelting & Environmental Protection Meeting held in Inner Mongolia’s Chifeng August 25.

“China has been the largest contributor of zinc output over the last 24 years, and growth has outstripped over 500,000 tonnes per year since 2012”, Lou said. “Consumption, however, should continue to slow this year. China’s zinc consumption grew at a 6% pace 2010-2015. Demand from galvanizing sector grew most rapidly at an 8.4% pace, while that from die-cast zinc alloy, copper alloy, zinc oxide and battery sectors was 1.4%, 5.6%, 7.3% and 3.9%, respectively.”

The galvanizing sector claims 57% in total zinc consumption. Die-cast zinc alloy, zinc oxide, brass and battery sectors are the other four major zinc downstream sectors.
