Thailand scrap imports dropped further in June

The latest import statistics indicate that the scrap imports by Thailand during June this year dropped sharply over the previous month.

BEIJING (Scrap Monster): The latest import statistics indicate that the scrap imports by Thailand during June this year dropped sharply over the previous month. Also, the scrap imports witnessed strong decline when compared with the same month a year ago. The country’s scrap imports had witnessed sharp decline during May also.

The scrap imports by Thailand during the month of June this year totaled 66,000 tons. The imports plunged by 35.2% when compared with the scrap imports during the same month a year ago. Meantime, the scrap imports have declined considerably by nearly 39.3% over the previous month. Thailand had imported 109,000 tons of scrap during the month of May this year.

The largest scrap exporter to Thailand during June ’15 was Australia. The scrap imports by Thailand from Australia totaled 30,000 tons. The scrap imports from the country accounted for nearly 45% of the total scrap imports by Thailand during the month. The Australian scrap exports to Thailand dropped heavily by 17.1% year-on-year. The second largest scrap exporter to Thailand during the month was Korea. The imports from the country totaled 11,000 tons, accounting for approximately 17% of the total scrap imports by Thailand during the month. The scrap imports from Korea jumped higher significantly by 368.9% year-on-year. In third place was Hong Kong with 5,000 tons. The scrap imports from Hong Kong declined marginally by 2.1% over the previous year.

The country’s scrap imports during initial six months of the year totaled 500,000 tons. The scrap imports by Thailand are projected to surpass 1 million tons during the entire year 2015.
