SHANGHAI, Aug. 25 (SMM) – China’s copper semis output dropped 9.2% on the month in July to 1.57 million tonnes, the National Bureau of Statistics reported.
Copper tube/pipe producers were mainly responsible for the month-to-month output decline, SMM reckons.
“Both copper wire rod and copper plate/sheet, strip and foil segments witnessed slight increase in utilization rates versus June thanks to growing orders after copper price slump, while tube/pipe makers saw their utilization rate down during the month,” SMM research team explains.
One large copper tube/pipe maker expects sharp output reduction in August, which may drag down overall utilization rate.
Total output through the first seven months amounted to 10.298 million mt, up 4.76% from a year ago.
