World crude steel production drops 3.8% in July

The global crude steel production totaled 132.900 million tonnes (Mt) in July this year, down by 3.8% year-on-year.

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster): According to the most recent statistics published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by 65 member countries was 132.900 million tonnes (Mt) in July this year, down 3.8% upon comparison with production of 138.115 Mt during same month the previous year.

The total crude steel production by EU-28 countries during July this year was 13.896 Million tonnes (Mt), slightly up by 0.3% than the July 2014 production of 13.852 Mt. Other European countries produced 2.719 Million tonnes of crude steel, down 9.2% when compared to 2.995 Million tonnes production achieved during July 2014. The CIS countries’ crude steel production dropped significantly by 9.3% from 9.328 Mt to 8.457 Mt. The total crude steel production by North America declined sharply by 6.8% from 10.455 Mt in July 2014 to 9.744 Mt in July this year.

The total crude steel production by South American region during July this year dropped marginally by 3.3% to 3.793 Mt. African countries produced 1.181 Million tonnes of crude steel, 11.5% higher when compared to 1.059 Million tonnes production achieved during July 2014. The total crude steel production by the Middle East countries during July this year was 2.351 Million tonnes(Mt), higher by 4.6% when compared with the July 2014 output of 2.247 Mt. The Asian countries’ crude steel production dropped by 3.7% from 93.742 Mt to 90.254 Mt. The total crude steel production by Oceania region declined marginally by 1.6% from 0.514 Mt in July 2014 to 0.505 Mt in July this year.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first seven months in 2015 in comparison with those during same period in 2014.
