A growing number of secondary lead smelters are expected to suspend production if they continue to suffer losses, SMM learns.

SHANGHAI, Aug. 14 (SMM) – A growing number of secondary lead smelters are expected to suspend production if they continue to suffer losses, SMM learns.

Currently, secondary lead smelters gain slim profits or even suffer losses. Certain large smelter reports a loss. Should this situation persist, more production halt will be expected.

A small number of irregular secondary lead smelters already suspend operation, SMM understands.

Secondary lead prices average 12,740 yuan per tonne this week, up 35 yuan per tonne on a weekly basis. Meanwhile, smelting costs also increase 30-35 yuan per tonne for secondary lead smelters. Thus, profits are largely left unchanged.
