[Steel Output] US Raw Steel production declines sharply to 1,760,000 net tons: AISI

United States domestic raw steel production declined sharply by 8% year-on-year to 1,760,000 net tons in the week ended August 1, while the capability utilization rate was 73.6 percent.

NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production declined sharply by 8% year-on-year to 1,760,000 net tons in the week ended August 1, while the capability utilization rate was 73.6 percent, as per the latest figures released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

According to AISI, production was 1,914,000 net tons in the week ended August 1, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 79.6 percent.

Raw steel production for the week ended August 1, 2015 is up 1.1 percent from the previous week ended July 25, 2015 when production was 1,740,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 72.8 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through August 1, 2015 was 52,247,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.5 percent. That is down 7.7 percent from the 56,619,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.6 percent.
