[Recycling] Greenville, South Carolina wins grant from Recycling Partnership

HARTSVILLE (Scrap Monster): Greenville, South Carolina has been selected as the second recipient of grant by ‘The Recycling Partnership’. The grant will be used towards purchasing new recycling carts and educational resources. Further, ‘The Recycling Partnership’ will also provide necessary technical assistance to ensure operational best practices.

The grant will help Greenville to further strengthen its curbside recycling collection. The grant will be used to purchase 96-gallon recycling carts, which will enable collection of more quality materials across the region. The distribution of new carts is expected to commence in April 2016.

The Recycling Partnership’s grant will boost city’s efforts to convert its existing recycling program to an automated-cart based collection system. The funds along with technical assistance will help the city to upgrade itself to 96-gallon carts. Further, the city also plans to add plastic containers to the list of materials accepted by curbside collection.

Once fully operational, the new roll-cart recycling system will benefit the Greenville community in a variety of ways. The 96-gallon carts are expected to significantly boost residential recycling rates. Also, the waste entering the city landfills may be reduced substantially. Most importantly, the program offers most convenient curbside recycling option to Greenville residents.

The Recycling Partnership is a 501(c) (3) organization that seeks to improve recycling programs nationwide. Through grant programs and free newsletters, webinars, workshops and tools, it provides practical and tactical assistance to communities.
