[Secondary Pb]Secondary Lead and Scrap Battery Prices Hold Firm against Slumping Lead Prices

SMM #1 lead prices slip 150 yuan per tonne on August 4.

SHANGHAI, Aug. 4 (SMM) – SMM #1 lead prices slip 150 yuan per tonne on August 4 but secondary refined lead, secondary lead and scrap battery prices stay strong, SMM notes.

Secondary refined lead enjoying price edges attract more buyers. SMM #1 lead quotes 13,050-13,150 yuan per tonne, versus 12,850-13,000 yuan per tonne (tax included) for secondary refined lead, leaving price gap between them at 175 yuan per tonne, SMM states.

Traded prices are as low as 11,900 yuan per tonne (tax excluded) for secondary refined lead in Henan and Shandong. As such, downstream, buyers are more favorable to secondary refined lead, boding well for secondary refined lead prices.

High costs also lend support to secondary lead prices. Shortfalls in scrap batteries allow scrap battery prices to stay high.
