Chile’s copper mining operations were not the only victims of adverse weather this year, as droughts are affecting concentrate production in Zambia and Papua New Guinea.

SHANGHAI, Jul. 29 (SMM) – It seems that Chile’s copper mining operations were not the only victims of adverse weather this year, as drought conditions are affecting concentrate production in Zambia and Papua New Guinea, according to reports of wenhua.com.cn.

First Quantum recently declared force majeure for the supply of electricity to its Kansanshi operation, as hydro-power generation from Zambia's state-run power company declined due to water shortage. Electricity supply at the company's Sentinel project was also reduced. The company has not revealed how bad the impact would be.

OK Tedi Mining Limited also announced in a statement that the company would temporarily close the copper mine in Papua New Guinea as low water levels of the Fly River hindered its operation. The mine’s output was about 76,000 tonnes last year, the report said.
