China’s galvanizers are expected to be forced to cut or suspend production in August due to environmental protection inspections.

SHANGHAI, Jul. 28 (SMM) - China’s galvanizers are expected to be forced to cut or suspend production in August due to environmental protection inspections in favor of the 70th anniversary of the victory of the War against Japanese Aggression, SMM says.

Beijing government decided to take measures to secure air quality for the big parade for the anniversary, and this will affect production at galvanizers, SMM explains. Meanwhile, zinc prices will also be weighed on, SMM adds, despite of the approach of peak season for zinc.

"Environmental protection measures ahead of the big parade for the 70th anniversary will restrict production at us galvanizers”, said one galvanized tube/pipe producer.

Most galvanized strip steel and tube/pipe producers in Tianjin and Hebei heard about the news but have not received any official order forcing them to cut or cease production yet. Their production is now stable, SMM understands.

A large number of steel plants in Hebei’s Handan and Tangshan, Shanxi’s Taiyuan and Changzhi, Liaoning’s Anshan and Henan’s Anyang have been ordered to cut or cease production in mid and late August.
