BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by North American countries edged lower by 6.4% during the month of June year-on-year. The production totaled 9.411 Mt in June this year as against 10.058 Mt recorded in June ’14.
The total crude steel production by Canada during June this year was 1.030 Mt, slightly lower than the June 2014 production of 1.063 Mt by 3.10%. The US produced 6.721 Million tonnes of crude steel, significantly lower by 8.5% when compared to 7.345 Million tonnes production achieved during June 2014. The total crude steel production by Mexico dropped marginally by 0.3% from 1.565 Mt in June ‘14 to 1.560 Mt in June this year.
The Cuban crude steel production rebounded sharply by 65.5% year-on-year to 30,000 tonnes. The crude steel output by El Salvador was estimated at 10,000 tonnes in June this year, remaining flat when compared with June last year. Guatemala produced 30,000 tonnes in June, slightly lower than the production of 31,000 tonnes during the same month a year before. The crude steel output by Trinidad & Tobago increased by nearly 15% in June this year to 30,000 tonnes from 26,000 tonnes during same month the previous year.
The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first six months in 2015 in comparison with those during same period in 2014.
