BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster): The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) has released amendments to scrap specifications. The ‘Scrap Specifications Circular 2015’, approved by board of directors, proposes three amendments to the existing specification apart from two fresh additions and one deletion. The ISRI has implemented the above amendments to reflect the changes in scrap trade market, to the benefit of both scrap buyers and sellers across the globe.
The first amendment pertains to ferrous scrap specification of 207/No.1 Busheling. The amended specification defines the material as clean steel scrap, maximum size 2 feet by 5 feet, including new factory busheling (for example, sheet clippings, stampings, etc.). It may not include old auto body and fender stock. Free of metal coated, limed, vitreous enameled and electrical sheet containing over 0.5 percent silicon.
Non-ferrous scrap specifications are amended for the following two categories:
1) Radio – Mixed Hard/Soft Scrap lead shall consist of clean lead solids and lead shots free of other materials, such as drosses, battery plates, lead covered cable, collapsible tubes, type metals, aluminum, zinc, iron and brass fittings, dirty chemical lead and radioactive materials. Review packaging specifications and regulatory status pertaining to shipping with buyer prior to sale.
2) Relay – Lead Covered Copper Cable is free of armored covered cable and foreign material subject to negotiation between buyer and seller.
The specification also adds two items under non-ferrous category:- Vader – Sealed Units and Darth – Ballasts. Also, ISRI has deleted specification pertaining to Rails under nonferrous material.
