A new rule which raises road tolls on overloaded vehicles effective June 26 is expected to drive up costs for transporting lead ingots to the province, SMM predicts.

SHANGHAI, Jun. 26 (SMM) – A new rule which raises road tolls on overloaded vehicles effective June 26 is expected to drive up costs for transporting lead ingots to the province, SMM predicts.

According to the new rule, vehicles with total weight exceeding weight limit by 80% should pay a road toll six fold of the base rate.

A majority of lead traded in Guangdong come from Guangxi and Yunnan. Vehicles from Yunnan are often not overloaded, but transporting cost will rise 20-40 yuan per tonne should vehicles from Guangxi be found overloaded, SMM understood.

This is expected to result in higher cost for lead ingots sold in the Guangdong market, but whether local lead prices will be buoyed remain uncertain now that lead prices are weak on the whole.
