NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States crude steel production totalled 1.726 million short tons in the week ended on June 20th, declined by 1.2% from a week ago and down 8.6% as compared to the corresponding period a year ago, according to data released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
In the given period of time, the capability utilization of the US steelmakers averaged at 73%, lower than 78.5% recorded in the same period of a year ago.
The country's crude steel production from January through June 20, 2015 recorded at 41.837 million short tons, down 7.4% from the production of 45.172 million short tons during the same period last year.
