Thailand scrap imports surge in April

Thailand's scrap imports reached 123,000 tons in April, rose 17.9% from a year earlier and surged by 182% from a month earlier, according to latest data.

BANGKOK (Scrap Register): Thailand's scrap imports reached 123,000 tons in April, rose 17.9% from a year earlier and surged by 182% from a month earlier, according to latest data.

The largest scrap exporter to Thailand during Apr '15 was the US. The scrap imports by Thailand from the US totalled 60,000 tons. The second largest scrap exporter to Thailand during the month was Philippines with 18,000 tons.

Thailand's scrap imports from January to April period this year totalled 325,000 tons, up 16.7% year-on-year.

It is estimated that the country's scrap imports would be at 970,000 tons in the whole of 2015.
