Metallix Refining purchases Umicore recycling facility

Shrewsbury, New Jersey-based Metallix Refining Inc. has acquired the precious metals recycling facility from Umicore.

TRENTON (Scrap Monster): Shrewsbury, New Jersey-based Metallix Refining Inc. has acquired the precious metals recycling facility from Umicore. The purchase of the Maxton, North Carolina catalytic converter processing facility will significantly boost Metallix’s recycling capacity.

The acquired facility has an annual processing capacity of 4 million pounds of ceramic converters. The facility also incorporates Platinum Group Metals (PGM) recycling process, capable of processing 3.5 million pounds of metal foil converters per annum. The company press release states that the acquisition of the new facility will add to its capacities. Additionally, it will enable the company to offer competitive pricing to catalytic converters. Furthermore, the acquisition is in adherence to the company mission to continuously improve its precious metal recycling technologies.

"We're excited to own and operate this state-of-the-art auto catalyst recycling facility. This acquisition gives Metallix another opportunity to better serve the precious metals recycling market," said Eric Leiner, CEO of Metallix Refining Inc.

The Maxton facility will serve as an entry point to the newly unveiled ‘PGM Pipeline Initiative’-a strategic alliance of companies with facilities dedicated to refining and recycling PGM metals.
